Popular merchandise includes short and long-sleeve t-shirts, sweatshirts, and hats. The signature collection features the annual Nebraska Volleyball Day and the new outdoor volleyball matches to be played at Memorial Stadium.
Five National Championships and Counting
Nebraska Cornhuskers volleyball has a rich history that dates back to their first fielding a team in 1975. Their first real taste of success came in 1986 when they reached the NCAA tournament. Four years later, in 1990, the Huskers made their first trip to the final four, and since then, they have been back numerous times, including a run of 10 consecutive appearances from 2000 to 2009. In total, the program has won five national championships, in 1995, 2000, 2006, 2015, and the latest in 2017.
A Model of Consistent Coaching Excellence
The Huskers' tradition of winning is also closely associated with their coaching staff. Amazingly, the program has had only three head coaches in nearly fifty years, and each one has contributed significantly to the program's success. Terry Pettit, who coached the team from 1977-1999, laid the foundation for the program by leading Nebraska to 19 NCAA Tournament appearances. In 2000, John Cook joined the team, and he has continued the winning legacy as the Huskers' current head coach. Cook has been honored as the American Volleyball Coaches Association's national coach of the year four times and has led the Huskers to four national championships.
Nebraska's Home Court Spikes the Competition
A significant part of the Huskers' success has been their iconic home arena, the Bob Devaney Sports Center. The venue has a seating capacity of over 7,900 and is regarded as one of the most intimidating environments in college volleyball. The arena has complemented the Huskers' winning record, creating an electric atmosphere that has contributed to the university's proud volleyball culture.
